Sampling and identification of benthic macroalgae

The student will be trained in methods for field sampling and identification of marine macroalgae. The practice consists of two activities:

1) Fieldwork. This will be carried out on rocky shores of the Conero Riviera (Ancona, Italy) and will involve snorkeling.

2) Laboratory work. The macroalgae collected in the field will be identified in the laboratory and processed by standard taxonomic practices (microphotography, preparation of permanent slides, preparation of herbarium specimens).

Language requirements:
English
Safety issues:
The student will be trained in laboratory and field safety issues (including practices followed in the Polytechnic University of Marche to prevent the spread of Covid-19).
Additional costs to be covered by the student:
No
COVID-19 contingency plan:
This professional practice involves activities that have to be carried out necessarily in presence. If the situation does not allow activities in presence, the student will receive documents useful for identification of marine macroalgae and Prof. Fabio Rindi will give some online lectures on this topic.
