Using virtual reality for marine conservation

Cyan Planet’s mission is to evoke empathy for the ocean through deep emotional experiences.

We use the power of virtual reality (VR) and immersive media to inspire, educate about the science of marine ecosystems, and to create a global community that acts for marine conservation.

The intern will work remotely with a young, international team of marine biologists, artists and VR technologists.

The interns responsibilities are:

  • Partnership management: contacting and maintaining contact with marine organisations for project-oriented or impact partnerships
  • Community engagement: working with Cyan Planet’s community (online or on site, depending on the pandemic - prospectively mainly online), developing and executing community engagement plans to increase awareness for marine conservation
  • Data analysis: analysing collected data for Cyan Planet’s scientific projects, eg. analysing 360° videos or transcribing interviews.
  • Content creation: developing concepts for the public representation of Cyan Planet, as well as gathering and editing material for content

Possible responsibilities can be as well to organise and host virtual reality workshops with Cyan Planet’s experiences in schools, universities and conferences. However, this depends on the global state of the pandemic and cannot be currently ensured to be part of the internship.

The intern should be communicative, motivated, be able to work independently, and not be afraid to learn something new. No previous knowledge about VR is required. Good internet connection and a quick grasp on online working platforms is beneficial.
The start of the internship can be discussed with the intern, it can already start in March, but can also start by the end of April, depending on the intern's needs.
